Gretchen Martens is a comedy writer and improv performer in Dallas, Texas. She’s been there for three years but she still can’t two step or say “y’all” with enough twang to pass for a native. You can find her online @GretchenMartens and on stage at Dallas Comedy House with Been There Done That and Brain Wearing Pants.
Gretchen is just finishing her first one-woman play, Bodacious Boots, the story of a woman of a certain age reinventing her Self after 40 as told through the evolution of her cowboy boots. She is working on a second one-woman play, SANinITY, an irreverent look at caregiving loved ones with mental illness. And, she hopes to put real effort into her first novel soon. Jeepers, you empty the nest and find out you have so much time!
Gretchen has studied improv, stand-up, and comedy writing at Second City, Dallas Comedy House, and Washington Improv Theater. She has been privileged to study with Anne Marie Saviano, Jenny Hagel, Caitlin Kunkel, and Anne Marie Sheffler.
When not writing or performing comedy, Gretchen is an executive coach and trainer at TwistDFW. The twist is a blend of coaching, experiential learning, and improv. She works with executives and sales team to create charismatic business presence. Her PlayShops enhance corporate creativity and develop high performance teams. She also loves to work with organizations to invent engaging marketing content and memorable brand ambassadors.
Gretchen has a love-hate relationship with potatoes. She loves a good French fry and sweet potatoes with marshmallows at Thanksgiving. But, she finds it unsettling when potatoes grow eyes and voyeuristically spy on her from the back of the pantry. Not that she’s doing anything naughty. . . .it’s just a matter of principle.
